Public Affairs Reporting: 50 years of Journalism

For nearly 50 years, the Public Affairs Reporting program at the University of Illinois Springfield has trained journalism students to cover politics and state government with a combination of classroom instruction and boots-on-the-ground experience at the Illinois Capitol. Jason Piscia has served as the program’s director since 2019, navigating a rapidly evolving news landscape, increased public skepticism about journalism, and a global pandemic that altered the news-gathering process. Jason will join us Wednesday, Nov. 17, to talk about the PAR program, the challenges it faces, the success it has found, the changing statehouse press corps, and more.
