Every speaker needs to gaining credibility as the “voice of authority.” Research tells us men start with credibility at the podium but women must earn it. That means careful preparation for every type of presentation women deliver. In this workshop Dr. Lois Phillips will discuss minefields and pitfalls women find particularly perilous. She’ll also help you craft a compelling pitch for your product or service, using a template from her new book Women Seen and Heard Speaker’s Journal, co-authored with Anita Perez Ferguson. Learn essential tips and tools to help you become a more confident speaker in every setting!

Dr. Lois Phillips’s broad and varied background in the communications field includes conference speaking, producing and hosting two TV programs about women’s changing roles, co-hosting DIALOGUES–an NPR radio show on KCLU about current issues — and coaching managers and leaders in presentation and media skills. Dr. Phillips became the founding Executive Director of Antioch University Santa Barbara where she worked for 11 years. She later developed a management consulting and strategic planning firm, working primarily with college and university executives. Dr. Phillips leads training seminars and planning retreats, and provides coaching services to executives who wish to communicate more effectively with stakeholders and the press. She delivers customized keynote conference presentations and is available for media interviews on the subject of leadership. As an instructor she taught classes for UCSB Extension on a range of Communication subjects, such as a series of corporate workshops titled “Creating a Culture of Innovation.” Dr. Phillips earned her BA in Speech Communication from Queens College, an MA in Humanistic Psychology from UMass/Amherst, and her Ph.D. in Education from UCSB.
