January Speakers Luncheon
Recognizing Implicit Biases & Microaggressions in the Workplace
Wednesday, January 16
11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.
Have you ever observed someone intending to compliment a colleague, only to have offended the recipient instead? This is one common type of microaggression, and intentional or not, these indignities can result in lasting harm. Unfortunately, microaggressions are an all-too-frequent occurrence that could be undermining your organization’s efforts at inclusion in your workplace.
This discussion, led by Dr. Heather Jia, associate professor at ISU, will explore our implicit biases, which lead to microaggressions; how they impact our personal and professional relationships; and what can be done to raise awareness and improve sensitivity. Participants will leave this luncheon with a better understanding of the nuance of language and the role it plays in our day-to-day lives.
