Dallas Delivers BIG!

Dallas delivers BIG in the arts and culture scene thanks to the largest contiguous urban arts district in the country.  Start your visit at the Dallas Museum of Art and the Crow Collection of Asian Art, which both offer free admission.  The Crow Collection offers a unique experience thanks to its once-private collection that is now open for visitors from around the world to enjoy.  The first arts organization in the district, the Dallas Museum of Art is distinguished by its innovative exhibitions and renowned collections.  With more than 22,000 works of art spanning 5,000 years of human creativity, the growing collection includes one of the most important museum holdings of modern and contemporary art in the U.S., and visitors can see it all for free daily.  Additionally, the Nasher Sculpture Center provides a tranquil open air garden and spacious indoor gallery to enjoy one-of-a-kind contemporary pieces.  If music is your scene, Dallas delivers as well.  From a night at the opera at the Winspear Opera House to the rich sounds and visuals at the Wyly Theatre, the Dallas Art District provides plenty of ways to enjoy a night of culture.

Shopping is a sport in Dallas!  Whether it’s luxury brands you long for or a family-and-budget-friendly spree, there’s no shortage of retail adventures.  Visit the crown jewel of Dallas shopping, the flagship Neiman Marcus store, located on Main Street in Downtown or visit NorthPark Center, one of the top shopping destinations in the country.  Another favorite is Highland Park Village, known for their high-end shops like Chanel and Christian Louboutin.  For a shopping experience unlike any other, stop by the Galleria Dallas and stroll through three levels of shopping and dining splendor suitable for any budget.  Need some western digs?  Head Downtown to Wild Bill’s Western Store to get fitted for your custom-made cowboy hat and boots.

If you’re in the market for new art pieces for your personal collection, head to the galleries along Dragon Street in the Design District, featuring different works of art including sculpture and jewelry at The Cameron Gallery and eclectic contemporary art at Galerie Zuger.  More into vintage pieces?  The neighborhood also offers a variety of vintage stores – start at Lula B’s to explore their vast collection of funky finds before heading to the Knox/Henderson area for more antique treats and contemporary treasures.

Food is a BIG deal in Dallas and no matter what neighborhood you visit, there’s something delicious waiting.  Head to Deep Ellum for your pick of the latest restaurants in Dallas.  You’ll find handmade giant pizza slices at Serious Pizza, a laid back, casual spot that’s perfect for a late night bite.  Or head to Pecan Lodge for their award-winning barbecue.  More in the mood for something upscale?  Head to Filament, a southern cuisine restaurant led by 2015 Food & Wine People’s Best New Chef Matt McCallister.

For something for the family, head to Trinity Groves.  The area west of Dallas has recently turned into a foodie destination thanks to a robust line up of restaurants just steps away from the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge and Ron Kirk Pedestrian Bridge.  Start at Chino Chinatown, an impressive fusion restaurant blending Chinese cooking with Latin-inspired ingredients.  Or head to Off Site Kitchen, a relaxed burger joint with a spacious patio to enjoy an array of outdoor game like basketball hoops and shuffle board.

Dallas comes alive after dark!  From cocktails in Uptown to live music in Deep Ellum, find your favorite spot in Dallas.  Start in the heart of Downtown at Midnight Rambler, a speakeasy-style bar inside The Joule Hotel.  From there, jump on the McKinney Avenue Trolley for a free and easy ride to Uptown where the liveliness of McKinney Avenue’s hot spots will pave the way for an exciting night.  Get into the Texas spirit at the Trophy Room with a ride on the mechanical bull – first one that falls off buys drinks!

If live music is more your scene, there’s no shortage of opportunities to check out a band or artist performance.  Head to Granada Theater on Greenville Avenue in East Dallas to start. The intimate venue is great for seeing an artist up close and the balcony sitting also provides a comfortable way to experience the show.  Check out Trees and The Bomb Factory in Deep Ellum for a night out, too – these venues epitomize the music history of the Deep Ellum neighborhood and showcase local, national and international artists on a weekly basis.

Whether it’s a trip to Klyde Warren Park or a few hours atop Reunion Tower, you can’t miss a visit to the best attractions in Dallas.  Traveling with the kids?  There are endless opportunities for family fun and even the adults will leave satisfied.  Step into history at the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza to explore the legacy of President John F. Kennedy and don’t miss a visit to the George W. Bush Presidential Library and Museum, where you can see artifacts from 9/11 and sit in a life-sized replica of the Oval Office.

Head to Downtown Dallas and explore the West End, one of Dallas’ most historic neighborhoods.  It’s just steps away from the Dallas World Aquarium where you can explore the rainforest canopy before getting up close and personal with a family of black-footed penguins. If outdoor adventures are calling you, head east to the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden for a day of exploration in the children’s park, where the little ones can take a walk along the trees on the Texas Skywalk or learn how plants work at the Plants are Alive exhibit.  No matter what you’re looking for, something BIG is waiting for you in Dallas.
